Malwarebytes Software Review

Well I do hope that there are still people checking up on this blog. I know I haven’t been putting much effort into this but well, there is only so much I can write about without boring you to death. Today I decided to write about a certain software which I especially LOVE. Yes I did just say love. Being the self proclaimed computer geek, this is one program which I don’t think I can live without. It is called Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. What does it do? It catches malware, adware and Trojans. I know some people would say that certain anti-viruses would do that too but heck, what’s wrong with having a second line of defense? Is it worth the price? I would say so because it has saved me countless times from problems. The paid version comes with a protection module which would monitor your computer’s behavior. The free version would just come with the scanner and remover. Even the free version has helped me out with a lot of my friend’s computers. You would be surprised sometimes with the amount of infected files it may detect.

The program don’t use up much memory and the Quick scan is also reasonably fast. On a normal hard drive, it would take about 5 to 15 minutes, depending on how many files your computer system has and on SSDs, it would take less than 2 minutes. Pretty awesome I would say. Paid version comes with a scheduler for auto updates and also scheduled scanning.
So just a friendly tip to anyone whose computer is acting a little funny, download the free version and scan your computer, won’t hurt to check it out.

I rate thee – 9/10

Awesome protection tool for anyone and everyone

Check it out here >> Malwarebytes

My Lenovo Y580 laptop review

Yay! *celebrates* Yes I got a new toy! Hello people.
So first off, thank you dad for the new lappy!

Okay moving on. So after much research of laptops available below $1000 and fully loaded (end 2012), I finally ended up with an Asus and the Lenovo, well you know which I went with.

The specs in my laptop-

  • Intel i7 3630QQM 2.40GHz
  • 8GB DDR3 ram
  • Windows 7 Basic 64bit
  • 15.6" 1920x1080 FHD
  • 128GB SSD + 500GB HDD
  • NVIDIA GTX660M
  • USB 3 & Backlit Keyboard

So the Y580 is marketed as a multimedia laptop which to me is a dying breed. If you look at laptops these days, its all trying to be thinner and more portable, which ain't something bad but you will have to just live with not having as much anymore. You would have a smaller screen, less ports, less GPU power with built in-graphics.

Samsung Galaxy Tab Review

Hey as some of you may know, I was recently fumbling around with the new 10.1 Tab by Samsung and well here is my video review!

I would say sorry tho cause its out of focus. Was really hard trying to record it with my dslr.
But anywho, it is pretty descriptive.

I would say tho, I do still prefer a laptop than a tab. Sure its lighter and it can be used at anytime but if you have a small laptop 11" maybe, fitted with a SSD hard drive, put to sleep. Then you pretty much can use it in a snap as well. Batt life wont be that significant but still you can do so much more. To me, lugging the tab around wasn't so diff as to lugging the Series 9 around.

Benq S57 Joybook disassemble instructions

Okay, first off I would like to thank Thang from NBR forums for giving me all the instructions needed to dis-assemble.

*Do this at your own risk. By doing this, it will also void your warranty if it still applies.*

Keep the normal rules applied.

  • Be aware of screw location and screw size. For the S57, the screws for the monitor hinge are the bigger ones.
  • Try to wear an antistatic bracelet just in case. If you don't have one, just don't shuffle your feet or stand  on a carpet.
  • Have your philips screwdriver and flat head screwdrivers on the table. Preferably those with the magnetic end ones. Helps with removing the screws.
  • Be patient and act smart. Note whatever which you remove so you can put it back later on.

Dis-assembly Instructions.

1. First, take off all the covers (battery, HDD, fan area etc). Cover your screen with something to avoid scratches (I placed mine on a piece of cloth). Take out all screws, they are mainly one length except for the HD cover screws (including the 2 longer ones at the back). Put them securely and in some sort of order on a separate surface where they won't be disturbed. Take the HDD out (remove 4 stubby screws, remove two side screws, slide out). You cannot remove the back plate yet. Then turn over.

2. Take off the plate with stripes (hinge cover) by first removing the three screws which retain it from the rear (you have already taken these out, the screw holes have a "K" printed into the plastic near them on the rear plate). You push the hinge cover down and up on both ends and it will pop up (it is a little tricky doing this). Take it off.

HP Photosmart Wireless e-All-in-One Printer B110a

HP recently launched a new line of printers and one in particular is the Wireless e-All-in-One printer.
What is a all-in-one printer you ask?
Its a printer but you can also scan documents and copy documents. What is even better now is that this HP printer prints photos as well. I don't just mean ordinary photos printers can do but quality photos.

Another plus point for this printer?
It is absolutely Wireless. Sure you can sit at the computer and print your stuff on normal days but if you do get bored with that, you can do your printing with the HP ePrint. Select the documents you want to print, then at the click of a button it will be sent to the printer for printing. This means the printer needs to be connected to the internet connection at home.

What else can you do?
Print from the web without a PC—coupons, recipes, greeting cards and more—using the HP TouchSmart frame. So you get to do simple task with the screen on the printer. Also, you can print stuff directly from your phone. You need an application for it but still Phone to Printer is pretty good.

To help you feel less guilty about killing tress and stuff,

You will save energy, using an all-in-one that is ENERGY STAR® qualified.

Reduce waste by choosing an all-in-one that is shipped in an innovative, reusable tote bag.

Conserve paper by easily printing multiple pages on both sides of a sheet of paper.

Get free, easy recycling—cartridges returned through HP Planet Partners are recycled responsibly.

If You can email it, you can print it!!

Samsung GalaxyS Android 2.3 Dark Core v2.3 Front Camera Fix

So I flashed my SGS with Darky's Dark Core v2.3 cause it was faster than the stock firmware but apparently the front facing camera has a bug with it. So you might be able to use video calling with Skype but the camera will be showing some weird image.

Anyways, here is the fix, just go to this forum link and look for the latest version ( v2.6) and download it.
At the bottom of all the download links, there would be a video teaching you how to flash your phone using SGS Kernel Flasher. Download the kernel flasher from android Market.

After following all the directions from the video, your phone should be updated to Dark Core v2.6 with the camera fixed. Its is also faster as the amount of ram available was tweaked.

Thank you Darky for the awesome Dark Core.

That's all.

Gigabyte M7700B Bluetooth Mouse Review

Kk, I got this mouse recently cause I was running out of USB ports and that just gave me a reason to upgrade XD.

Anyways here are the pros and cons of it

Pros

  • Portable bluetooth
  • Sensitivity button. 800dpi/1600dpi
  • Laser mouse
  • On/Off button
  • 5 button mouse
Cons
  • Its a tad small. Skinny mice?
  • The side buttons are hard to press if you have big hands
  • The scroll button needs some getting used to

What can I actually write about a mouse?
Its accurate, laser guided. All the buttons work as designed. The Bluetooth was easy to set up and quick. It doesn't have that red LED light at the bottom as its a laser mouse, so don't go thinking its not working. Cause I did that (blonde moment)

The design is comfortable as there are groves for your thumb and pinky fingers. In the groves there are also rubber fittings for more grip. The mouse sensitivity on 800dpi is actually pretty good but if you are lazy and you don't want to move as much the 1600dpi would suit you better. The mouse runs on 2 AAA batteries which are also included in the packaging.

Yep, that's all I can think of to tell you guys.

Samsung Series 9 First Impression and Usability

The sample unit comes with Intel i5 2537m, 4GB Ram, 100GB SSD Hard disk and Intel HD Graphics.
Weighing at only a little over 1kg, a bottle of water would weigh about the same.

Exterior
Well first thing I noticed was how damn thin the laptop was. It can easily beat netbooks in the lack of thickness. It ain't easy to comprehend how thin this 13'inch laptop is until you actually see it. The design is sleek and sexy but the one thing I noticed which was missing from normal laptops was the connectivity ports usually found at the sides of normal laptops. Ports on the Series 9 are cleverly hidden on both sides. Just pull down at the side and the ports would show. Since the laptop is also made of that duralumin airplane thing, you can feel very little flex, very sturdy. The Duralumin is a little sharp at the sides so you might feel it poking you sometimes and it may be scratch proof but not finger print proof.

The portability theme is also carried over to the connectivity ports. Besides the 2 normal sized USB 3.0 ports (one USB can charge your mp3 even when turned off), everything else is downsized and dependent on wireless connectivity. On the left, 1 mini HDMI, 1 USB and 1 mini/ micro network port. Even I haven't seen a mini network port before but here it is.
On the right , 1 USB, 1 audio out/ input (there is only 1 jack. So I guess the mic and headphone needs to be integrated together) and 1 micro SD reader. If this laptop is placed on a table, bigger USB devices would have difficulty connecting to the laptop, such as my mouse dongle.
The laptop does lack a CD/DVD player. So this might be a little troublesome.

Samsung Series 9 First Impression and Usability Coming soon

Hello, well some have mentioned that since I didn't give enough credit to it and some even said its not fair since I don't own one, I have gotten my hands on the Samsung Series 9.

So for this whole week. I am gonna bring it around and use it.
So no geeky specs, all I am gonna write about is the impression and how the laptop works out under daily conditions of a teen/uni student.

Give me a few days and some time to write up the post. For all you planning to get this laptop but still need a user review on it?
Well here it is!

Samsung's 2011 netbook sneak peek coming soon!

Okay I have just had the chance to see the new netbooks from Samsung.
It has not yet been officially been launched yet and the specs are also not out yet.

I will however be able to play around with it when it reaches my hands. So I will be able to give you a hands on write up about the feel and touch of the netbooks. Since usually the specs can always be found online.

There were 2 models, one running on the new MeeGo OS and the other would be the FIRST netbook with a Solar Panel.

But till then, here are the 2 pictures I took to tease your senses.

More will be revealed when I get my hands on the netbooks. Can't wait!

Samsung YP-K3 MP3 Driver solution

Okay I own one YP-K3 mp3 and since finding it back, I had trouble connecting it to my laptop.
There seems to be a lot of websites with a lot of junk in it.
So here is the solution.

My laptop is running on Windows 7, 64bit.

  1. Download the Samsung Media thingy from this link. (click Free Download and External Link)
  2. Select SOFTWARE which is next to MANUALS. Then choose the file you want to download.
  3. After downloading it, install it (for Windows XP and Vista). For W7, right click and select Compatibility and select Vista.
  4. Let everything install itself. The MEDIA player should be installed.
  5. Plug in the YP-K3 into the computer and it should be detected by the Media player.
That's about it.

My iPhone 5 new features predictions.

Okay since everyone is so hyped up about the iPhone 5. Well iPhone 6 more like it but after checking out the market and Apple's competition, these are what I PREDICT the iPhone 5 would have.

None of these are confirmed. Just my predictions.

  • Bigger memory. Definitely. Since the iP4 did not have a bigger memory for the HD recordings, hopefully Apple will bump it up.
  • Fixed antenna. Well this is pretty logical to avoid the death grip.
  • Dual core processor. Since the competition has launched this and the iPad2 already have it.
  • More ram. Makes sense, since they upgraded the processor as well.
  • Bigger screen. Okay this is a 50-50. Since Apple doesn't seem to be too hyped up about the bigger screen.
  • Bigger camera. 8mp perhaps.
  • 4G. This I am not quite sure. There are a lot of speculations but maybe, just maybe. Apple might leave this out for the iP6.
Yep those are my predictions.
I thought about that Smart Skin thing for the iP5 as well but since the phone is comparably smaller, don't think it needs a stand.

Leave a comment if you have predicted something as well.

All for now,
YJ

My Samsung Series 9 laptop Review

Finally had the time to write this up. Sorry for the delay.

Well I'm sure many out there would have already played around with this laptop but what the heck, I'm still gonna write it anyways.
I had a chance to play with the laptop during its launching recently.

First I shall begin with the specs of it.
  • Intel i5 2nd Gen 1.4GHz
  • 4GB ram
  • Windows 7 64bit
  • 128GB Flash Hard Disk
  • Chargeable USB port
  • Backlit keyboard
The Samsung Series 9 laptop is designed for people on the go. With its thin and lightweight design, being portable was definitely one of the main themes. The laptop is also pack with a Intel 2nd Gen processor, so don’t you worry about lagging and not being able to multitask. One of the main points that Samsung highlights would be the SUPER bright LED screen(1366x768) which is supposed to be the brightest in the current market, so for all those users who likes using their laptop out in the sun, don’t you worry about it. For users who like to sit in the dark, a backlit keyboard is provided and it is sensor guided. When it is dark enough, it would automatically switch on.

My X-Mini Max II review.

I'm pretty sure that a little while back you must have seen little ball shaped speakers being used around. It was pretty popular back then but now the craze sorta died down.
Feeling that I needed a pair of good speakers on the move, since laptop speakers are really enough for me, I decided to get the x-mini speakers.

The design is the usual, rounded but instead of just 1 speaker, this gives a stereo sound. Having magnetic bases, both speakers can be stuck together for easier transport. Plus they give this little pouch for carrying it in, so its pretty simple to move it around. With the design, its pretty to use it, just on the speakers, plug in the cables and turn the volume up.

The sound quality is awesome coming from the little thing. When it is closed, the sound is sharp but bass would be lacking. When you open it up, you do get a fuller sound with more deeper tones but don't expect heavy bass sounds. Amazing thing about it is the sound doesn't crack even when it is at full blast. Compliments on that. I tried it with my SGS, using the 5.1 sound surround for a concert vid, awesome shits! Felt almost if I was there.

It has this cool feature called the Buddy Jack, where you can actually connect more X-mini speakers to each other. So if you have a few friend who have it, you can all get together and have a party just with it.
Battery life is pretty long. Stated 12 hours but from normal usage, I'm pretty sure it will last way longer than that.

My thoughts - I would definitely say, I love these little speakers. Sound quality is great and it is light and small. Only flaws about it is the price, for such small things, S$ 50 is pretty steep and the amount of base could be a little bit heavier. If you don't mind the price, great idea for a present for a loved one or yourself.

I Rate Thee - 8/10

*Note* There has been reports of it not working or having certain problems with it, so when buying it, please check whether everything is working properly.

Videos of it can be found on youtube.

All for now,

Samsung Launches 13" laptop & New line up of 3D HD Monitors.

Yesterday Samsung Officially launched their new 13" Series 9 laptop. It is truly thin and lightweight, less than 1inch thick and only is 1.3kg. Filled to the brim with the newest technology paired with a very sleek design, it is definitely something to look out for. Just to tease your senses a little, it is fitted with a 2nd gen intel core, Windows 7, Backlit keyboard, 4 GB ram and even  the new Flash Hard Disk. Which is the fastest hard disk around now.
Look out for the review for the laptop. That would be coming up soon.

Also with the launch, Samsung launched their new line of HD monitors. The hottest out of the oven is the SA 950. How hot is it? Well from the design itself, you can tell that its different. What's so special you ask?

Well it has Full HD, 2D and 3D viewing, Eco light sensors and the part I like the most, a build in hub for wireless connectivity. More will be explained in the next post but for now, this is it.

All for now, YJ

Why Root your Samsung Galaxy S

I always searched why I should have rooted my phone a while back and well let me tell you why you should do it.
I am a simple user, I don't go through all the inside files and haven't learn to flash my phone yet. So, it is sorta simple to do.

The moment you root your phone, Superuser should have been installed (grants you admin perks). The first app to install is One Click Lag Fix. This app would fix all the little lagging problems with the phone. It would also make certain apps work faster. I tried it and yes i would definitely say it made everything faster. Almost like iPhone smooth.

Second app I found to be useful would be Hot Reboot or any other app that would just restart the software and not the whole phone. Makes restarting your phone much much quicker.

For those more advanced user, there are apps to dig into you phone for full control and to squeeze more out of your battery but those needs to be further researched.

*Updated*
After some opinions from the more experienced who commented, I shall add in what they said since it is to lets you know the reasons to rooting your phone.
According to them, with the root, you can back up your phone, flash your phone ( something like reformating it), overclocking the processor and also to delete certain admin files.
Pretty sure there are loads of other perks, its just that I haven't learned it yet. Sorry....

Hope all the simple users would find a reason to root your phone from this short post.

My Toshiba L645 - 1126XL Review.

I have gotten my hands on the new Toshiba L645. The new blue colored laptop.
Well, its my sister's actually, so I still get to play around with it.

Specs.
  • i5 M560 2.67ghz
  • 4gb ddr3
  • ATi Radeon HD 5650 1gb
  • 500GB
  • 14" Screen and size. HD ready.

What is it exactly? A 3k budget laptop with a kick-ass processor and graphic card for the time being.
The exterior is a little plain but the new blue color does give it a mysterious feel.
The keys are pretty big and the touchpad is acceptable. The multi-touch function is a little annoying at times.
Eg. zooming-in the web browser unintentionally.

The laptop runs smoothly when multi tasking or even when a heavy application is running in the background. It is fairly light and the battery would last about 4 hours when using the Eco mode by Toshiba. Not bad I might say. The keys on the keyboard is a little oddly placed but with time, the user would get used to it. Somehow some of the functions on the Fn keys are a little out of place and I do wish I can assign them to more important applications.

When running games on this baby, it would pretty well. As if it is laid back while still spitting performance. Running Modern Warfare 1 and 2 at High is not a problem . L4D and L4D2 is also not a problem. Currently testing out COD BlackOps on it. From what I got so far, its smooth sailing all the way.
As I do use Adobe Lightroom 3 from time to time, I did try it out on this baby. I found it pretty usable on my own lappy, only on this processing was faster and with little to no lag.

The thing I don't like about it is the simplicity. The laptop is so simple till they left out the nifty little media keys.
Alot of the other functions are for the Fn buttons and even till then, there is no media keys for Media player. No Play/Pause button. The screen is good but not as bright as I like it and the speakers are not as loud as many would like. It does come with a few unwanted software as well but those can be easily removed.

Here are some benchmark scores for the graphic card. *Click Here*
Notebookcheck gives very detailed benchmark scores.

I rate thee - 8/10

My comment - This laptop here would be a bargain maybe in a few more months to come when the price drops. Eventho I dod mention about the media keys but I did find a solution to it so not such a big problem there. Would have been nice if the keys were backlit and the screen was a little sharper. Since it is just a budget laptop, it wont win in every aspect but it will still deliver.

Logitech MK320 Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Review

About 2 weeks back, I managed to get my hands the Logitech wireless mouse and keyboard.
For a typical laptop user, this is quite an added feature.
This would make your tech savvy boyfriend or girlfriend quite happy?

Both the wireless and mouse use the same wireless receiver. It is not a very big receiver so it is quite portable. It is also very easy to install as it is just plug and play technology. Something very cute about the receiver is also that it can be stuck on to the bottom part of the mouse, to make sure it wouldn't be lost when brought around.

The mouse is quite accurate and is capable of playing first person shooters. The keyboard on the other hand is quite a fun little thing. A full sized keyboard for those laptop gamers who would use the number pad. At the top, multimedia keys for music and video, volume and skip buttons. For the lazier people, a button just for jumping around windows, a desktop button, a music button, a mail button and even a Power button.

Everything else is the same but the lack of wires is a prettier sight, especially when I already have camera cables, phone cables, speaker cables and power cables running around.
The keyboard and mouse set would have been much better if it was a bluetooth device for laptops but since it was made with desktops in mind, no comments there.

Samsung GalaxyS/ Vibrant MMS Problem Solution

Okay so apparently the GalaxyS had problems with the MMS function. Either it would not go out or it would not be downloaded.
So after fooling around with my phone a bit I am guessing I found a solution.

My phone is running on Android 2.2 Froyo.

1. Download MMS phone settings from your network provider.
2. Install the settings.
3. Go to your phone Settings> Wireless and Network> Mobile Networks.
4. Check "Use packet data"
5. Go into Access Point Names. Select your provider setting.
6. Check APN Type and make sure the mms setting is selected. (Either just MMS or Data roaming or both)

That fixed my phone for me. So go give it a try and see.

*If it doesn't work then sorry I don't think I have your solution then*
Tell me if it works for you.

6 ways to keeping your laptop from overheating.

These days, especially in college, almost everyone owns a laptop if not a desktop. Problem is most of the time I see people doing this that really makes me wonder.
If people worry so much about their laptops being hot, then I don't get why they do certain things to make it heat up faster.

  1. Most popular NO NO, don't place your laptop on top of the laptop sleeve. I see loads of people doing this and I do wonder why they do it. If you have noticed, most of the air vents are under the laptop, so why reduce the amount of cool air going in by obstructing it?
  2. Gaming on the bed. This may not be in college but I still see it. Its almost the same as the first but games tend to heat the laptop up much much faster. If you really want to play it on the bed, get something to hold it up like a laptop fan or a file to elevate it.
  3. Use a laptop cooler if you you would like to keep the laptop cool and if possible try to align the fans under an air vent opening. So it will force more cool air into the laptop to cool it down.
  4. Switch the Power Management to Balanced, Power Saver, (brand) Recommended. As the High Performance option would only put everything in maximum performance even if you are just web surfing. Whenever gaming or editing things, you can just switch it back.
  5. Maintenance of the laptop fan. Sometimes if gets pretty dusty and that might clog up the fan or the vent out. So just clean it once in a while or keep an eye out for it.
  6. This might be a little off but it works as well, using the laptop is a cool area such an in an aircond room. XD Makes perfect sense.
