A Moment With A Stranger

Recently I have been sharing moments with strangers. It feels more of a Hollywood story of the very least. Meeting a random stranger of the opposite gender, either on the subway or on the plane, looking at the same thing, making eye contact, smiling at what we saw and by the end of that ride, we would part, never knowing anything more of each other, then just by the person’s smile and of the moment we shared together. Was it real? I hope so, because I know that the stranger had made my day. In that one  moment I wasn’t just another face in the crowd but something more.

Malwarebytes Software Review

Well I do hope that there are still people checking up on this blog. I know I haven’t been putting much effort into this but well, there is only so much I can write about without boring you to death. Today I decided to write about a certain software which I especially LOVE. Yes I did just say love. Being the self proclaimed computer geek, this is one program which I don’t think I can live without. It is called Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. What does it do? It catches malware, adware and Trojans. I know some people would say that certain anti-viruses would do that too but heck, what’s wrong with having a second line of defense? Is it worth the price? I would say so because it has saved me countless times from problems. The paid version comes with a protection module which would monitor your computer’s behavior. The free version would just come with the scanner and remover. Even the free version has helped me out with a lot of my friend’s computers. You would be surprised sometimes with the amount of infected files it may detect.

The program don’t use up much memory and the Quick scan is also reasonably fast. On a normal hard drive, it would take about 5 to 15 minutes, depending on how many files your computer system has and on SSDs, it would take less than 2 minutes. Pretty awesome I would say. Paid version comes with a scheduler for auto updates and also scheduled scanning.
So just a friendly tip to anyone whose computer is acting a little funny, download the free version and scan your computer, won’t hurt to check it out.

I rate thee – 9/10

Awesome protection tool for anyone and everyone

The Third Parent

Growing up is always tough, doesn’t matter of what gender, race or social class you are. I know I had a pretty rough time. But here is the thing, our parents didn’t have the privilege of the internet. We do fortunately. Coming from an Asian family, kind of open country and just the curiosity of growing up, I have discovered that whatever my parents did not talk to me about, whatever school did not teach me about, I would eventually learn from either friends or the internet. I know where some of you are going with this. I won’t deny not looking it up. Anyways, at the end of the day I would have learned what I wanted to. The friend part wasn't a very good idea either. Just imagine all bullshit your friends would tell you. So I turned towards the internet and that was how I met my third parent. From basic remedies to social skills, basic facts to reference page guides. it seemed that this parent knew it all. Of course some of the information was pretty off, but heck look at how much faith people put into Wikipedia. I recently heard from a talk show of how some celebrity took to the internet on how to care for her newly born child. Well I guess, I have more siblings than I expected from this one parent. Now I wouldn't say this is the best parent, since as we all know, clicking the wrong thing would just cause us to have viruses.

My Lenovo Y580 laptop review

Yay! *celebrates* Yes I got a new toy! Hello people.
So first off, thank you dad for the new lappy!

Okay moving on. So after much research of laptops available below $1000 and fully loaded (end 2012), I finally ended up with an Asus and the Lenovo, well you know which I went with.

The specs in my laptop-

  • Intel i7 3630QQM 2.40GHz
  • 8GB DDR3 ram
  • Windows 7 Basic 64bit
  • 15.6" 1920x1080 FHD
  • 128GB SSD + 500GB HDD
  • NVIDIA GTX660M
  • USB 3 & Backlit Keyboard

So the Y580 is marketed as a multimedia laptop which to me is a dying breed. If you look at laptops these days, its all trying to be thinner and more portable, which ain't something bad but you will have to just live with not having as much anymore. You would have a smaller screen, less ports, less GPU power with built in-graphics.

Malaysia's Greenest Mall Educates Shoppers on Sustainability.

Selangor, March 21, 2013

The initiative aims to educate shoppers on the importance of sustainability in a fun way and to provide a platform for the shoppers to understand how the sustainability features implemented in the mall has helped it reduce its carbon footprint.

5 hour energy crash

Hello readers!

Okay okay I know, I haven't been keeping to my word of keeping this blog updated. But I sorta have my reasons. Plattsburgh ain't a very big place and well, unless I start writing about my lunch or the daily dramas, then I don't really have much to talk about anymore. The biggest event would be from my uni and the biggest drinking thing would prolly be a pub downtown. So yea...

So in the States, energy drinks is a pretty big thing. Besides RB, there is a whole list of other brands which claims the exact same thing - more energy. But one of the more popular ones is 5 Hour energy. Its a tiny little bottle which apparently would give you hours of energy without the "crash" people usually get. This bugs me because I know people who drinks it and they crash. Of course I know that everyone is different but to claim drinking it does not make you feel like crap after using it should be applied to everyone.

So here is just a quick shout out to all the readers who drink it. Take it in moderation if you do. There was a death case from drinking too much of it. Below are some links to the issue mentioned above.

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/01/03/business/5-hour-energys-no-crash-later-claim-is-disputed.html

I guess that was all I would have liked to ramble with.
Next post soon. Hopefully, if I get my homework down.

Grind My Gears - Common Courtesy

Haven't wrote of these like forever. Nyways, yesterday I read a tweet which went "saying you're welcome is not a chore, but common courtesy", and it got me thinking. How often do I say you're welcome, which really ain't that common at all. Which only leads to one thing, people I have been dealing with are not saying "thank you" at all.

Where I currently am, I have  had to learn my manners again due to all the friendly people around me but back home, where commercials say its one of the friendliest places, you really don't actually experience common courtesy much at all. Rarely people hold the door for you, rarely would they ever let you get into their lane while being stuck in a traffic jam, rarely would they even say thank you if you did something for them.

So I ask, what happened to common courtesy? I read an article recently of a social experiment of helping and very sadly so (it somehow affected me deeply), Malaysia was rated as the least helpful country, in the case of helping a random stranger in need. That's just sad. Check it out yourself -> LINK

So whoever reading this,
the next time someone goes out of their way for you, a simple thank you ain't really that much effort to say.

Grinds my gears even when I think about it...

Rant end...

My SteelSeries Siberia USB Soundcard Review

Finally another review! Well technically its not even a new product but screw that I bought it and so I want to write about it.
I have to admit I never actually had any problems with my laptop's soundcard but the audiophile in me took over and tadaaa the usb soundcard.

Pros

  • 7.1 virtual surround sound - Awesome for movies. LOTR and Matrix. Just sounded amazing!
  • small, sturdy and lightweight
  • Wire is fairly long - good for gamers at computer cafes.
  • Volume control & Mute buttons on it.

Cons
  • It's incredibly loud - Yes this can be a problem as well. Volume at 1 and its still loud on my headphones. So you have to go through the trouble of turning every application volume down.
  • Sometimes the connection between the wire and the card comes off pretty easily. Could be a Pro or a Con.

I actually really like the soundcard. It adds more fullness to sounds and definitely more bass for those bass heavy songs. Playing games with it is a hell lot more creepier since you hear stuff behind you while running around and movie watching is just a total blast!

Is it worth the price of it? Pretty sure it's not but heck if you watch a lot of movies on your laptop then this could be one of those experience enhancing devices.

I Rate Thee - 7/10

No Matter how much I like it, I still think it's pretty overpriced.

Zombie Walk Plattsburgh 2012

Hey all!

Sorry for the overly long lack of posting for the past many many many months. As some of you may know, I'm currently studying overseas and well I'm pretty much in a small town where nothing much really actually happens.

Anyways back to the post, its currently Zombie Walk month, where people dress as zombies and they walk around in groups just to have some fun. Yes apparently its fun. Not putting my camera to waste, I went out there with my camera. Will just tell you some tips on how I snapped some of the pics.

*Camera
*Wide angle lens preferably
*External flash with diffuser
*A whole lot of running.

Set the camera to manual Mode. I used ISO 1000, Shutter was set at 1/100 but it will change based on the amount of light available, Aperature at f8 and the flash was set at half power. I only decided to play around with the flash and shutter as I felt that it was easier that way and faster too. Flash head was pointed towards the people obviously.

That's pretty much it. Have fun!

Just remember that since you are looking out for zombies, having normal looking parents or people walking in your picture would make it look out of place.

Very sorry about the picture placing. Blogger changed and I'm not very sure about the new layout.

Post-Review Hennessy V.S.O.P Privilege NyX launch 2012.

So after tasting the product what do I think about it?

Hennessy NyX is actually a very good tasting V.S.O.P. It is smooth and rich with flavor. Mom personally loves it with Soda as she says it tastes better than all the fruity flavors.

I personally just love the apple and berry but still, I would still say this product would be best enjoyed just straight on the rocks. Based on flavors alone, it is definitely tasty.

The launch wasn't very big so it felt exclusive enough. Just so you guys know, Vertigo Club is serving the NyX already, so dropby for a taste if you can afford it.

Here are some pictures from that night at Vertigo Club, Gardens.

Changing with the Fun Theory.

Hey people,
sorry for not updating for a bit but life is hectic as usual.
Anyways recently I saw some videos about the Fun Theory. Its a project by Volkwagen to change people's attitude towards basic actions like throwing trash into the trash can and recycling.

I know the videos maybe old but still its definitely a start to give ideas to the world about creative ways to change our habits.

Enjoy!

Imagine if this was in your country, wouldn't it be much cleaner or greener or healthier?

My Maha PowerEx MH-C800S Smart Battery Charger Review

So one thing I found out about being in the States is that not every electronic would work here. The ones from Msia that is. Its because of the lower power supply in the US.

I found out about this when I plugged my battery charger into the socket to charge up my AA batteries for my flashgun and tadaa nothing happened. Worst part was cause the current was so low, its barely charging 2 of my 4 batteries. So, I decided to get a universal battery charger that would work anywhere in the world and that it would last me for years.

After my googling and review reading, I ended up with the PowerEx 800S. It cost $40+. I know its a little expensive but I would justify that in a bit. I think its the exact same thing with the other more expensive Maha chargers. Only thing which I found wasn't so good was that it charges only AA/AAA.

So what did I find good about it?
First thing, it can be used anywhere. So even if the electric current is different, there should not be a problem. 8 batteries can be charged all at once or a single one can be charged. Mix brands if you wish and it will still work. Way better than charging in pairs. There is a LCD screen at the front. I know this might just be a fancy add on but being able to track how much the battery is charged is good. Its way better than just staring at a LED light anyways. It will say its DONE charging, good for my 2700mAh  batteries since it takes forever.

The best feature however I would say is the Condition charging. Instead of just a fast charge and a slow charge, The condition charging will charge your battery up to full, fully discharge it to empty and then slow charge it up again to full. This will fix most of your old rechargeable batteries back to a sorta new state. Wish it worked with phone batteries and laptop batteries tho.

Personally, I find this charger very good. As a normal user/ amateur photographer, I burn through batteries fairly quickly and this has been great help.

I rate thee - 8/10

If only the charger works for different sizes and it being so expensive, I would have given it full points.

First photoshoot. Jeremy & Car.

Well a big difference in the US and in Msia is that in the US not everyone own a DSLR. So it does make me wonder how that actually caught on.

Anyways, recently I went to try my hand at shooting my friend's car. I never actually got myself to shooting but I guess it turned out pretty well for the first time.
It is a pretty sweet ride.

Hopefully I do get better at this.
Here is the link so some of the pictures!

A whole new life!

Hey everyone!

Sorry that I have not been updating my blog. I am proud and a little sorry to say I have continued with my studies at the United States!

So I am living a new life with new people and a new environment.
Sadly all my blogging connections from home has been severed.

Well give me about another week for everything to settle down before I start blogging again.
Currently going through orientation and classes start next week so subject selections are driving me a little crazy.

All for now!

If you know anyone I can contact in the US for blogging opportunities, PLEASE SHARE!
